Airlines and destinations from London's major airports

You can fly from London to almost any major city on earth. That's how well connected the city is. But not all airports have the same number of connections. Here's how they measure up:

  • London Heathrow Airport - has fewer destinations than Gatwick (180) but far more airlines (80). Major destinations include American cities like New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Miami, Asian destinations like Beijing, Hong Kong and Tokyo and more unusual destinations like Accra, Santiago, St. Johns (Newfoundland) and Tehran.
  • London Gatwick Airport - although smaller than Heathrow, Gatwick actually flies to 220 destinations (many of them domestic flights within the UK) and hosts 50 airlines. Popular destinations include city break favourites like Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin, Madrid and Geneva, but you can also fly further afield to Dubai, Moscow and some American destinations like Fort Lauderdale and New York.
  • London City Airport - tiny by comparison, but still an option, City hosts 11 airlines and reaches 34 cities, including Bern, Frankfurt, Berlin, the Channel Islands and Amsterdam.
  • London Stansted Airport - Stansted is used by 22 airlines and is the main base for Ryanair, so it's an important point for budget holidaymakers. Popular destinations include Palma de Mallorca, Alicante and Faro, as well as major cities like Rome and Valencia.
  • London Luton Airport - famous for being the home airport of Easyjet, Luton is a common starting point for Mediterranean beach holidays, with direct flights to Corfu, Alicante, Fuerteventura, Larnaca and Lanzarote (among many other sunny destinations).
